For those that have been paying attention, the Sunday night FSN Game of the Week
2007-02-26
For those that have been paying attention, the Sunday night FSN Game of the Week, be it the ACC or Pac 10, has produced several upsets again this season. In fact, just last week, Arizona State captured its first conference win of the season, knocking off USC. Is another upset in the making in College Park this Sunday? One would have to figure the deck is stacked that way with ACC-leading North Carolina having to visit the Terps in front of a national TV audience.
For years this was one of the sweet ACC games to look forward to. With the expansion of the conference, these teams no longer meet twice a year. Nonetheless the stakes will again be high for different reasons in Maryland. North Carolina has assumed the top spot in the ACC and wants to do the same with a number one seed. The Tar Heels have had a couple of missteps this month and are only 2-4 ATS in February. Maryland on paper can compete with anyone, boasting 79.6 PPG on offense and a defense holding opposing teams to 38.6%. In spite of gaudy numbers they just surpassed .500 in league play with fourth consecutive win over Florida State. Roy’s boys are unbeaten (13-0) with 7-3 ATS record with three or more days off. Whatever the feeling about the Terps remember this, only once in 22 games have the outcome and the spread been different. The StatFox Power Ratings indicate North Carolina by 7, but by no means is that a sure thing when it comes to the FSN Game of the Week.
